Davison Awards program from Keep America Beautiful Inc. The award was prese nted during the National Awards luncheon at KAB’s annual nut ting at Washington. D.C. The Andrew II. Davison Award, formerly known as the Public Lands Stewardship Award, is co-sponsored by Take Pride in America and Keep America Beautiful Inc. It is awarded annually to the most outstanding example of grassroots participation in the protection of public land. The Great Arkansas Cleanup is a statewide volunteer cleanup held each year on the first Sunday after Labor Day. The event began in 1979 with cleanup efforts focused on the 2G parks managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Kngincers in Arkansas. It has since expanded to include 70 cleanup efforts throughout the state. In the 1992 Great Arkansas Cleanup, 2G. I00 volunteers picked up the equivalent of 5 16 dump truck loads of trash on public land. Volunteers sold more than 40,000 pounds of aluminum cans to mobile recycling centers throughout the state.
